Since taking over the reins of The Louisville Orchestra in 2014, Music Director Teddy Abrams has taken the musicians out of Whitney Hall to venues all around the city. If the challenge for the venerable orchestra in recent, troubled years, has been to bring new patrons downtown to Main Street, Mr. Abrams’ approach seems to have been: if the audience won’t coe ton the orchestra, then take the orchestra to the audience.

The latest example is that Abrams and the Louisville Orchestra will present a free Season Preview concert at Iroquois Amphitheater on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 7 p.m. This free public performance will offer community members the opportunity to sample music from the 2015-2016 Classics Series and Coffee Concert Series.

Works featured include: Stravinsky’s Russian Dance from Petrouchka, which will be performed with the Louisville Ballet on March 4 and 5; Beethoven’s Symphony No.3 (“Eroica”) can be heard again on October 23 and 24 when the Louisville Orchestra will also perform a World Premiere; and, Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man deeply influenced the composer’s Symphony No. 3 (“America’s Symphony”), which will be performed during the Festival of American Music on April 8 and 9. Audiences will also enjoy vocal selections from Leonard Bernstein’s Mass featuring baritone Jubilant Sykes.

The Louisville Orchestra staff will be on-site at Iroquois Amphitheater to take orders for single tickets and subscriptions, as well as to share information and answer questions.

Since this is a free concert, tickets will not be necessary for this performance. Seats will be available on a first come basis, so early arrival is encouraged. The gates to Iroquois Amphitheater will open approximately one and a half hours before the performance. For more information, call 502.587.8681 or visit www.louisvilleorchestra.org.

The Louisville Orchestra Classics Series is made possible with the support of our sponsors: Brown-Forman, Treyton Oak Towers, Fund for the Arts, Kentucky Arts Council and Metro Louisville.
